Fresh Eggs and Breeds

Our Standard is "Egg-cellence"

We keep a beautiful flock of laying chickens.  Many of the breeds we currently have (*denotes breeding flocks as well) are heritage and unusual breeds.

Buff, Blue, Black and Splash Orpington's*,  French Wheaten Marans*,  Giant Cochin* (Buff, Blue, Black, Splash), Ameraucana* (Blue, Black, Splash), Welsummers*, Blue Laced Red and Silver Penciled Wyandottes*,  Rhode Island Red and our special green egg layers*!

The Welsummers and Marans lay the darkest eggs (the Marans laying the darkest). The Ameraucana's lay blue eggs (These are not EE's).  We have some Ameraucana x Marans crosses that lay green eggs (We do not consider these mixes as we deliberately cross them to produce a beautiful green egg layer.  Green eggs shown in two pictures above).

Included in the price of purchasing eggs is the cost to feed the older, non-producing hens.  We never cull older laying hens.  They have served us well and deserve to live out their life naturally and peacefully.

We pick up eggs every day.  Packed and laid in a variety of colors, they go straight from the nest into a carton.  They come to you unwashed.  When you get them home, rinse them off in a mild soap wash, pat dry and refrigerate.  It is best to store eggs pointed side down.

We feed a commercial mix, cracked corn and black oil seeds and add greens, fruits and vegetables, mostly from our organic orchard and garden.  They also get alfalfa hay.  This contributes to the awesome golden color yokes!

Because we strive to keep everything on the farm as natural and organic as possible, you will experience a decrease in our winter/summer production.  FYI.. chickens on average lay 200 - 260 eggs per year (everyone needs a break!)  Two things critical to laying, length of daylight hours and temperature, along with good food, fresh water and comfortable housing conditions of course.  The laying hens are free range in a very large grassy area with a large covered expanse.  Lots of fresh air and plenty of sunshine!

All natural, all good and also nutritious.

We gladly receive and recycle egg cartons.  This helps keep our prices down, helps us keep a "green" farm and helps the environment overall.  Currently a dozen eggs are $2.75, 18 eggs are $4.00.  The minimum is a dozen.

Don't miss out on a blessing because it isn't packaged the way that you expected.
