Have you ever seen or used organic luffa? You'd be amazed. Most people's experience with luffa is store bought and disappointing. They turn gray, hard and smell in a short period of time. That's because most luffa is imported into the U.S. and it has to be chemically treated for this reason. The chemicals are what change the properties of the lovely luffa. Luffa by the way is a gourd that grows on a vine! It can be spelled any number of ways. The luffa flowers and fruits are edible when they are young. The flowers are large and bright yellow. One of the most beautiful things is that we notice Bumble bees love the luffa flowers and must travel some distance to discover them. The fruit grow long and slender and the skin stays green and soft until it's mature. Once mature, they dry and are ready for peeling. The natural color can be any shade from a dark brown to almost white. Usually store bought luffa are white which is produced from a bleach wash. The end product can be used in any number of fashions from personal scrubbers and crafts to artisan soaps. We sell our dried luffa by the inch. Seeds are also available.
